Honda Malaysia has promised to launch six new models in 2017. Prior to this, Honda Malaysia has launched Honda BR-V, Honda City Facelift, Honda Jazz Facelift and Honda All-New CR-V. Now, Honda Malaysia has finally launched the 2017 Honda City Hybrid. With that being said, we are expecting one more new model in the pipeline. The Honda City Hybrid is the second hybrid model that is being introduced this year, similarly with the Jazz Hybrid, both models are locally assembled in Melaka. If you are wondering how the City Hybrid fare with the vast B-segment car market in Malaysia, stick with us as we are going to tell you the FIVE reasons to buy Honda City Hybrid
1. First in ASEAN
Malaysia has once again become the only country outside of Japan to introduce the new powertrain in a City. The City Hybrid in Malaysia is packing the same engine with Grace, which is City Hybrid in Japan. Both sedans are being equipped with 1.5L i-VTEC engine with Sport Hybrid i-DCD system. However, the Honda Sensing System is absent in the local City Hybrid.
2. It Drives Differently From The Conventional Honda City
The City Hybrid is being equipped with Sport Hybrid i-DCD system which consists of a seven speed dual clutch transmission (DCT) mated with a 22 kW lithium-ion hybrid battery and an electric driven compressor. The City Hybrid engine produces 110 PS and 134 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm combining a 30 PS and 160 Nm electric motor, the total power output is 137 PS and 170 Nm of torque. Driving the City Hybrid is pleasantly quiet. Once stepping hard on the accelerator, the City Hybrid delivers almost immediate power to propel the car. The shifting between the engine power and battery power is almost seamless and deliver performance as good as a Civic 1.8S. The seven- speed DCT is a great step up from Honda Earth Dream CVT, the gear shift is snappy and reacts instantly with gear change.
3. Awesome Looking Instrument Display
Both City and Jazz Hybrid are equipped with 3D illuminated Meter Cluster with Multi-Information Display (MID). Unlike the conventional meter, the MID in both hybrid models shows the car energy flow, analysis of fuel consumption, sport meter, ECO display, and various drive info. The MID is proven to be functional and one can adjust the car settings such as volume of keyless entry beep and duration of interior dimmer via the buttons on the steering wheel.
4. The AC Never Stops Running
Honda has definitely step up the Hybrid game in both City and Jazz Hybrid. Unlike the previous Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) cars, the City Hybrid is now being equipped with lithium-ion battery, which means the car could drive on EV mode without the engine. The AC will never stops running until you turn it off. This was made possible with Sport Hybrid i-DCD system whereby the electric-driven compressor works individually from the engine which ensure the AC will never stops running even when the engine is being shut off.
5. Only RM987 Per Month
With a starting price RM89,200 (without insurance), the City Hybrid is an affordable hybrid car which comes after the Jazz Hybrid. Prior to our country’s Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEV) incentives, the City Hybrid is being exempted from tax and duties. The City Hybrid sits in between E variant and the top spec V variant. What are their differences you might ask? The City Hybrid is not getting LED headlamps and foglamps, leather seats, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear knob as well as curtain airbags from the V variant. However, the City Hybrid gets Hybrid-only instrument panel display, Hybrid-only gear level, 16-inch rims and LED tail lamps.
Prior to the success of the City, Honda has garnered great trust from the public towards the brand as well as the model line-up. The Honda City Hybrid is here to steal all the lime lights and possess a great contender for the B-segment market. The City Hybrid offers almost everything one can ask for in B-segment car, from safety equipment to advance technology. With high market acceptance towards Hybrid cars, we foresee that there will be more Hybrid cars on the road in the next few years. Alternatively, If hatchback car is more of your cup of tea, you can opt for Honda Jazz Hybrid.
